Apple is potentially going to confuse a lot of people with the new iPhone SE [Special Edition]. It looks like the older iPhone 5S, it has hardware features of the new iPhone 6S and it has a completely new name; SE. So, it is obvious that many will wonder how it compares with some of the older iPhones in the market. The short answer to that question is very well. But let's take a detailed look.
In terms of design, Apple harkens back to its classic iPhone design language which was standard issue between 2010 and 2013. The iPhone SE looks like the iPhone 5S but with minute refinements to its chamfers which now have a matte finish. It is also a compact phone unlike some of the newer iPhones. It also comes without design oddities that have plagued the iPhone 6 line; so there are no camera bumps, and no gaudy antenna lines. Furthermore, you also get the new Rose Gold colour.
The biggest update is possibly to the camera. It gets the same 12-megapixel camera found in the iPhone 6S with things like focus pixels, deep trench isolation and a f/2.2 aperture. All this means, that the iPhone SE will have a great rear camera. A massive upgrade from the iPhone 5S and a decent upgrade over the iPhone 6. It will be one of the best around outside of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and it will be a handier camera because of the compact size of the iPhone SE. People forget this aspect because a smaller device is easier to stabilise manually. It also gets the selfie camera and retina flash from the iPhone 6S, which we dare say is even a bigger upgrade considering the paltry front camera on the iPhone 5S. Again, selfies will be easier to click because of the size of the phone.
