OMG: Olamide Thinks He is Fela Kuti But His Wrong, and Here’s Why

Like he boastfully said, he needs not 'hustle for that shit' by paying for international collaborations just for the sake of them, because he is doing just fine.
Olamide‘s career has been phenomenal. He has defied the odds stacked against him as a kid with aspirations growing up in the mean streets of Bariga to an elite rapper in the music industry.

However, just like in every career, aspirations don’t end, as almost every individual desire to reach heights that are considered greatest.Thenetng wrote about what might be required of Olamide and his protege, Lil Kesh to take their music to the next level on the international front.
And in a bid to address the need for international collaborations, the rapper told Hip TV in a new interview that he isn’t desperate to work with any international act.
‘Fela didn’t even do any international collaboration before they recognised Fela in the international market. It’s not about hustling for that shit, I won’t hustle for that shit. Everywhere I’ve been to right now, is based on grace of God — I just wanna hustle for my stuff, live my dream — we are not bothered‘, he said.

‘To hustle for anyone to be on my track, that’s a no, no. I’m on my Fela P right now. Fela didn’t hustle for anybody to be on his track, he lived his life. He made his music, and when he died, they started copying his style.’
Well said Olamide, but the comparison of his career to that of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is unfounded because, though few, Fela actually had international collaborations.
Fela worked with Roy Ayers, a soul jazz and funk musician from Los Angeles, United States on the latter’s 1980 album, Music of Many Colors.
Fela was also prominently featured on British drummer, Ginger Baker‘s album, Stratavarious in 1972, while the Afrobeat pioneer appeared in a major Amnesty International concert with Carlos Santana in 1986. American Jazz trumpeter, Lester Bowie was also a collaborator on Fela’s 1977 No Agreement album.
Truthfully, the impact of the few collaborations on Abami-Eda’s career are negligible, as his legendary status would still be intact without them, but they were still significant moments in Fela’s career. While it’s not to say that Olamide’s chance at achieving international acclaim is solely dependent on how many foreign acts he can lock himself in the recording booth with, having an international appeal with his music is a win-win.
Imagine an OLIC with some of the biggest international names as guest acts?
Though like he boastfully said, he needs not ‘hustle for that shit’ by paying for international collaborations just for the sake of them, because he is doing just fine.

VIDEO: How I got the ‘Best Contract’ from Olamide – Lil Kesh

Lil Kesh was a guest on Sunday’s episode of “Rubbin Minds” on Channels TV with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
While on the show, the former YBNL artiste, and the host delved into the topic that has caused so much debate in the industry – contractual agreements between artistes and  record labels.
In the course of the discussion, Lil Kesh praised his former boss, Olamide for giving him the ‘best contract’.
The artiste’s definition of ‘best contract’ was that Olamide did more for him than what was written in the contract.
He said Olamide treated him and other YBNL label mates like family and made sure they had the best as he did not only give them fish but also taught them how to fish.
In essence, he trained them to be independent as well as teaching them all about the music business in the process.
Lil Kesh then opined that one of the reasons why artistes get embroiled in contract disputes is the fact that they hastily jump at ‘juicy’ contracts out of desperation.
He also dropped a freestyle on the show.

MUST READ: Between Olamide " Who you EPP and Shuun Bebe "Who You Help"

The Year is still quiet Young but it has experienced more controversies than hits songs.

Firstly the new year was welcomed with Olamide vs Don Jazzy beef, which later split to Cynthia Morgan Vs Davido. Black Face vs 2baba and WizKids, Dammy Krane Vs WizKids and lastly the Psquare brothers.

Now the latest one is between South South proud Son Shuun Bebe and South West son of the soil, Olamide.

Am amazed over how many number of remix and remake of Olamide's song title " Who You EPP". A tittle coined from Shuun Bebe's ever green hit single, "WHO YOU HELP". A street anthem till tomorrow in the South South. A Song that is gradually creeping into the hearts of Fans Nationwide.

Ever since Olamide decide to use same name but different spellings, it has gone every where within a matter of days. But the sad part of it is that, no credit was given to the owner of the title.

Olamide still remains a hit maker but not giving credit to the young man who need just a little support to grow is what we are trying to look into.

We all saw how furious Olamide was when lil kesh wasn't given the next rated at headies just because he felt Lil kesh should have been given the award and most people share his opinion.

Its Annoying and frustrating, when after putting all your energy into a work and someone comes and take all the Glory.

That's What Olamide is currently doing to Shuun Bebe unknownly. Give me some credit is all he is asking for.

Am not accusing Olamide of Theft and neither is Shuun bebe because I have listened to the Song and its far different from Shuun Bebe's own. The only similarity is the Song Title and Chorus.

Olamide has seen Shuun bebe performed this song and the kind of love people are showing him up stage and the best bet is for Olamide to approach Shuun Bebe for a collabo.

We have heard of rumour of Dbanj approach him(Olamide) for Go Dow Low Remix, How Dbanj also approached Oriste-femi for " DOUBLE WAHALA" remix and how recently, Davido approached Humble Smith for Osinach remix to just to talk about his baby scandal.

Just one collabo can solve some artist problem. Remember it was Olamide featuring on Phyno's Ghost Mode, that made him what he is today.

Even recently, just because Drake loved WizKid's Ojuelegba, he jumped on it and still gave him that credit. That's what big artists do to support young artists that are still learning the ropes.

Nobody is an island in this business and so we need to support each other to grow.

Because when you leave the music scene, your numbers of hit Songs won't matter much but the legacies you leave behind.

I have seen more than 20 remix of Who You EPP mixtape And Boom attention is gradually shifting from Shuun Bebe "Who You help" to Olamide's "Who you EPP".

Let credit be given to inventors. For the industry to grow, A-list artists should also give respect to the up and coming because they were once like them.

Shuun bebe to me has displayed a high level of maturity since this whole thing started. He has refused to be dragged into the " You Stole My Song" blame game, just to gain cheap popularity as most upcoming artist would do. And I respect him for that.

All he is asking, is for Olamide to give him credit for his work and which is normal worldwide.

I wanted to urge Olamide to stretch a hand of friendship to this young man and see ways they can settle this issue once and for all.

I also wants to use this medium to urge shuun bebe not to ever relent in his pursuit for Glory. These are signs of Good things to come. I pray more hits will come and we shall be here to celebrate with him.

The God that did it for Olamide, will surely do it for him.

Olamide's Song - 'Don’t Stop' Banned By NBC

The NBC in a memo stated that examples of phrases in the song that necessitated the blacklisting includes:
“I just wanna hit it now now now,” “Je kin wo be ( let me enter ‘the place’ ),” “don’t stop, take it,”“Oun tami oun ro mi,” (my private parts are hurting me).

“It took your mama 9 months to make it,” “wa gba ponron (come and let me give you my penis ).”

OLAMIDE – A Comparison of Eni Duro And Bobo

A lot has happened since most of us began loving Olamide in 2010 after the release of Eni Duro. Eni Duro’s music video was considered remarkable because it depicted Olamide’s ‘humble beginning’ lyrics accurately. However, Olamide has risen to fame and is now used an example of hardwork and consistency in the Nigerian music industry.

By comparing 5 features of Olamide’s music videos, Eni Duro  (2010) and Bobo(2015), we will see how much things have changed for the Yoruba hip hop artiste.
  • 1. He was signed on Coded Tunes in Eni Duro in 2010. Today, he owns YBNL Nation.
  • 2. Olamide has moved up from the ghetto to the Island. Eni Duro was shot in the hood while Bobo was shot at the popular Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island.

  • 3. In Eni Duro, he only had Shaki and some guy’s girl. In Bobo, the girls were more enthusiastic to be featured.
  • 4. He was once a one-man army, but today, he has a team of fast-rising proteges – Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, etc.
  • 5. He’s moved up to wearing bespoke designer clothes and jewellry. No more ‘Burberry’ and plastic ‘Ray Bans’.

Olamide has really done well for himself. His consistency has led him to the heights of the Nigerian music industry.

Olamide Is In Deep Trouble

Yesterday, many superstars turned up at the marriage of our most beloved OAP Tolu ‘Toolz’ Oniru and among them was YBNL boss Olamide rocking his native attire and a sandal.

Maybach Music rapper Wale was in town to join in on the celebration and share the joy and laughter with his Nigerian counterparts and friends. Olamide Baddosneh rocked a sandal  to compliment his native and shots were taken for memories of the beautiful day.

This is where the trouble comes.

On posting his beautiful photo with Olamide on instagram, Wale didn’t see what was coming next. This is crazy.

See below.
